Who can apply for EU trademark registration?

Every natural or legal person can apply for the EU trademark registration. However, if the applicant does not have a place of business, a real and effective establishment or their domicile in the European Economic Area*, he must appoint a representative for the proceedings before the European Union intellectual property office (EU IPO). The professional representative can be found at the EU IPO webpage.

When applying for the EU trademark registration, the applicant must provide the following details:

1) When an applicant is a company:
Full name and legal form
Country of registration
Address

2) When an applicant is an individual:
Name and surname
Nationality
Address

It is also advisable to provide to EU IPO an email address, telephone number and fax number (if applicable) so that the Office can contact the applicant easily.

* The European Economic Area (EEA) is made up of the 28 Member States of the European Union plus Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein.
